NTC Development

Nike

An experience created for the user, by the user.

As the Nike+ Training Club user base is growing day by day, we constantly look for opportunities and areas to improve the experience.

Our design process was heavily driven by research. We began targeted recruitment drives to locate users and using prototypes of all fidelities, observed user behaviours to identify problems and opportunities to constantly improve the product.

Case study 01
First workout

Problem

On first arrival, users struggle to select a workout that’s right for them.

Solution

Update the first visit and first workout user journey to incorporate popular workouts and add the new essential moves workout (a 5 minutes stretching exercise for users to get a quick taste of NTC).

The job story

We frame every design problem in a Job, focusing on the triggering event or situation, the motivation and goal, and the intended outcome:

High level user journey &
low fidelity wireframes

We use sketches and lo-fi wireframes to help visualise and test early concepts, requirements and design assumptions at the beginning of process.

Design

To prompt new users and return users (with no completed workout history) to engage with NTC, we introduced the following first workout journeys to help them finding the right workout by providing appropriate popular workouts and simplifying the start a workout journey.

First workout flow 01:
First time visit new users

First workout flow 02:
Return users with no completed workout

Badges

Objective

To surprise and motivate her to share her NTC moments with friends. Make her NTC milestones worth sharing. Give her new milestone assets that she sees herself in. Position her as a fitness influencer/taste-maker of her social network: always different, always surprising.

Idea

Getting fitter, stronger and leaner affects not just your body, but your mind, mood, location and style of workout. With the new badges, we’re creating a journey that everyone using NTC can relate to.

The new NTC badges

We introduced a new badge reward system, which is more personal and relevant to user’s workout pattern. When users met certain personal achievements, they will be given badges as reward.

1. EMOTION

The first workout is always the hardest. Train harder and your mood, attitude and energy levels will change as your body does.

2. EQUIPMENT

From shoes to weights, balls and a running program: vary your workout with different equipment as you progress.

3. ENVIRONMENT

Take your training to great heights. Every new environment represents new challenges to take on and smash.

4. STATUS

Push your body and watch it change before your eyes. These milestones represent your goals and the physical manifestations of what happens when you crush them.

5. EXPERIENCE

From traditional metal medals to precious gems, these medals represent your commitment and experience on NTC.
